What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. Rand has taken on the monumental task of taking a beloved vintage brand into the future. He loves tone and creating fantastic new sounds. If you are not familiar with Mu-Tron do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. IBANEZ – ST9 SUPER TUBE SCREAMER OVERDRIVE

“This pedal is my favorite overdrive. This has four knobs instead of three. They were a little rarer, so a lot of them got circulated out in Europe in the 1980’s. I’ve got two and one came from an effects a shop in Amsterdam back in the ’90s. And then I have two of the 10 Series versions of that that I bought as backups. I felt with that the s the super too, but that extra now you can kind of get more crunch out of it and possibilities–less of that mid-range hump.

2. MU-TRON – PHASOR II

“I love phasers, so of course, my favorite was always the Mu-Tron stuff–the old stuff, which of course I really didn’t have much to do with that, I was like three when they were making those things. I have a few of those that I’d gotten in pawn shops and wherever over the years. The original was the Phasor I which was OTA based (operational transconductance Amplifier). This pedal always sounded great but it was too hard to make. The Phasor II came out and was kind of the lesser model and it was just a nice optical based one that still sounded great.

3. TYCOBRAHE – OCTAVIA

I love octave pedals, always have. Mine is an original it’s old and just beat up. That’s a good one– that thing’s pretty wicked. So that’s a must-have.

4. IBANEZ – SOUNDTANK EM5 ECHOMACHINE DELAY

I think I really grew pretty fond of tape delays at one point. I really liked this plastic thing. They did a pretty good job. It’s kind of low-grade and low-fi so it sounds awesome.
